DR. STEVEN SIEGEL
Vice President of Behavioral Health for USC

Steven Siegel, MD, PhD, is a vice president for behavioral health at the University of Southern California. In this role, Dr. Siegel coordinates mental health and wellness programs for all faculty, staff and students at all USC campuses. He leads a new office of University Behavioral Health.

Dr. Siegel became Keck Medicine of USC’s chief mental health and wellness officer in 2021, leading mental health efforts across all departments and services. He has been instrumental in building and co-leading the nationally recognized Care for the Caregiver program at Keck Medicine that provides comprehensive wellness programs to our health care workers.

Dr. Siegel joined USC as chair of Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences in the Keck School of Medicine of USC in 2016. In this role, he led a major expansion of the department, improving the breadth and quality of clinical services, research and training in psychiatry and behavioral health.

In 2017, USC Student Health was brought under the oversight of Keck Medicine.. Dr. Siegel was instrumental in incorporating USC student mental health programs, into Keck Medicine and the department of psychiatry at the medical school. This led to the creation and growth of one of largest and most innovative student mental health systems in the nation. For example, the My Mental Health initiative in the Department of Psychiatry now offers USC students state-of-the-art mental health screenings with immediate access to indicated services.

Dr. Siegel and his faculty also have overseen the creation and growth of a novel undergraduate general education curriculum teaching wellness, resilience, altruism, trauma-based behaviors and other topics.

Dr. Siegel is a founding member of the Board of Governors for University Clinical Services, and serves on its mental health committee.

Prior to coming to USC, he served as a professor of psychiatry and bioengineering at the University of Pennsylvania.
